"Serving those who have served others."
Help for Heroes is a nonprofit (501c3) that brings together members of law enforcement, EMS, fire and members of the communities of the metro-New Orleans area in an effort to eliminate that initial financial stress after a first responder is killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. Rather than plan multiple individual fundraisers for our heroes and their families throughout the year, the members of Help for Heroes' desire is to bring all of the fundraising resources together to assemble one or two large scale fundraisers to benefit our local heroes in the metro-area and their families. Having one large sum of money banked from these annual fundraisers will allow Help for Heroes to provide financial assistance immediately following the death, injury or serious illness diagnoses.
Founded by Andres “Chico” Gonzalez Jr., a decorated retired New Orleans Police Officer. Andres was inspired by his own experiences after being shot and paralyzed while working for the NOPD in 2006 after a “routine” traffic stop. Following his shooting, he felt lucky to have the support of his department, friends, family, and community. Chico began to think of how he wanted to help give back, as he was lucky enough to receive a successful fundraiser in his time of need, and he wanted to do something similar for others. He knew then that he wanted to start a nonprofit to help not only police officers, but all first responders that are injured or killed in the line of duty. Help for Heroes was formed; since then, we've helped numerous families and participated in events to give back to the community as a whole. We are always looking for others to join us.
